Still Life Writing

Variety and unity are often viewed as opposites, however, they go together so well when it comes to photography. You need both attributes to have a pleasing, yet intriguing photograph. The photo by Carly Tice shows unity in the way that it uses all fruits and similar color scheme for everything in the photo. It also uses variety by throwing in the flower and the lime to add another shape and color to the whole picture. The photo by Lauren Kaleway really caught my eye. The unity is in the color scheme and the use of reflection from the water drops. The variety is that it is a very unique photo and the water adds a different shape and light within the photo. Lastly, the photo taken by Ale Quero Dodge is a clear example of both the difference and importance of variety and unity. The white color everywhere brings the photo unity while the single colored bean brings variety to the whole photo.

Conceptual Self Portraits

I took the photo “Fall Leaves” to represent my favorite season. Fall has always been my favorite season because of the beautiful colors. I love driving around just to look at all of the leaves change with the seasons. I find it so peaceful and beautiful.

My picture “Purple Flower” showcases my favorite color. Purple has been my favorite color ever since I was little. I also love all things in nature. I find nature very relaxing and peaceful. I thought this flower was the perfect combination of the two.

The photo “Volleyball Net” represents my favorite sport. I love to play and watch volleyball. I would do it all day if my body would let me. I have a passion for the sport and love the people I get to play with.

I used the photo “Sunset Drive” because it shows my love for the sky. I have always been fascinated by the sky and clouds. Sunset isone of my favorite times of the day. I am always amazed by how beautiful the sky can be.

Impact of Photography

Too often, the impact that photography has  had on the world is looked over and forgotten. What people don’t notice is how important it really is. A huge historic event such as wars,  or country and scientific accomplishments can be captured and remembered by a single picture.

One of the many important events that can be captured by a photograph is war. The first picture shown was taken by an unnamed artist during the Vietnam war. It shows what appears to be a mother mourning the death of her son who died during the war. At this time, many were forced out of their homes to go fight away from their families. A lot of these men would not see their beloved family again. This photo really captures the sacrifice that was made by not only the men who served, but their family and loved ones as well.

Photographs can take you places. They can make you feel like you are standing in the middle of somewhere you have never been before. They can make you think certain things or feel specific emotions. They can share a personal experience through just one glance. The second picture was also taken by an unnamed photographer in hopes to capture a personal story. The purpose of this photo is to make you feel like you are somewhere when in reality you are not. It shows the point of view of the people standing right in that very spot. It helps you feel and imagine without telling you anything. Photography has brought this beautiful sensation into the world.

This last photograph is one that is very recognizable. It captures one of the biggest steps for America as a country. The picture was taken by Buzz Aldrin in 1969. The photograph shows the first man to ever step foot on the moon. The photograph captured perfectly the “…small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” This single picture will forever be a huge part of history and hold the title of one of the most famous pictures in America.

It’s disappointing to think of how easy it is to overlook the important role that photography has played, and still does play in history.

Communication in Photography

Photographs have a special way of communicating a point without any words. This photo shows the power of teamwork. The photo captures a special moment of a group of hikers making it to the top of a mountain. This photo not only shows the hard work of the hikers finally paying off; but the hikers immediately turning around to help the others get to the destination. The photo captures the beautiful view of success and the beauty that is in service. This one picture alone can portray so many different messages.
